Nordex is considering ending manufacturing activity at its nacelles plant in eastern Spain and, according to media reports, is also looking at the future of its German production sites.

The turbine manufacturer informed representatives of the workforce at its factory in La Vall d’Uixó, Spain, of the review this month, it confirmed to Windpower Monthly.

It has not explained the reasons behind the review, but the manufacturer recorded losses last year, citing increased costs for raw materials and shipping. Nordex is yet to release its financial results for the full year.

According to media reports the turbine manufacturer is also considering the future of its production sites in Rostock – its only manufacturing plants in Germany.

Regional newspaper Ostsee Zeitung reported that the turbine maker’s management had told steelworkers union IG Metall that it is considering changes to production in Rostock, but is yet to make a final decision. However, Windpower Monthly understands that the Rostock plants’ workers’ council briefed IG Metall, and there has been no communication between the workers’ council and Nordex management.

A Nordex spokesman told Windpower Monthly that the company regularly reviews its core processes, including production and procurement. He added that the company does not “participate in any speculation”.
