Chinese manufacturer Goldwind wins ‘milestone’ 500MW wind turbine order in Uzbekistan

It is due to supply 111 of its GW155-4.5MW turbines for the project – which developer Masdar claims is the largest in central Asia – in the Navoi region.

Sun Lianhua, general manager of Goldwind’s central Asia Russian-speaking region, described the Zarafshan wind farm as a “milestone project for Goldwind to promote China’s foreignisation of wind power”.

While Chinese turbine manufacturers continue to dominate their home market, OEMs are increasingly looking abroad, with the likes of Goldwind and MingYang supplying projects and eyeing manufacturing investments in Europe.

Abu Dhabi-based renewable energy developer Masdar recently reached financial close on the Zarafshan project.

The wind farm will contribute towards Uzbekistan’s target of generating 25% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, including 3GW of wind capacity.
