MingYang wins 1GW Chinese order for 11MW offshore wind turbines

Chinese turbine manufacturer MingYang Smart Energy has secured an order to supply its 11MW turbine to two offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 1GW.

It is due to supply Guangdong Electric Power Development with its MySE 11-230 typhoon-proof hybrid-drive offshore wind turbines for two deep-water sites off Guangdong province in south-east China.

They will operate on a merchant basis following the Chinese government scrapping feed-in tariffs at the end of December 2021.

MingYang launched its 11MW turbine in July 2020. At the time it was the largest, most powerful turbine offered by a Chinese manufacturer. It has since unveiled a world-leading 16MW offshore wind turbine.

The company’s hybrid-drive turbines feature both a drivetrain and permanent magnet generator.
