Engie to buy 880MW onshore wind farm in Brazil

Engie Brasil Energia has agreed to buy the 882MW Serra do Assuruá Serra do Assuruá (882MW) OnshoreState of Bahia, Brazil, Central & South America Click to see full details wind energy project from PEC Energia SA for BRL 265 million ($50 million).

Located in the north-eastern state of Bahia, the project includes 24 parcels of land, for which Engie has a lease agreement, and plans to collect wind data.

The developer said that the project also had a guaranteed connection to Brazil’s national power grid and licences from Bahia’ state environment and water regulator Inema.

The deal increases the size of Engie’s pipeline of advanced renewable energy projects in Brazil to 3GW. Earlier this year the company acquired two solar energy facilities from Solaire Direct with 218MW of installed capacity.

“We remain attentive to acquisition opportunities to foster and accelerate growth in renewable generation,” said CEO Eduardo Sattamini.

Engie is Brazil’s largest private power generator and operates 10GW of installed capacity in the country of which 97% comes from renewable sources. The company is working to eliminate all fossil fuels from its operations and plans to sell the 345MW Pampa Sul coal-fired thermoelectric plant by the end of the year.
