The Danish manufacturer has agreed to provide turbines for Engie’s 846MW Serra de Assuruá project in Bahia, north-east Brazil. Serra de Assuruá is due to consist of two phases.

Vestas is set to supply, install and maintain 120 of its V150-4.5MW turbines for the first 540MW phase, and Engie has the option to order a further 68 units for the 306MW second phase by the end of the year.

Commercial operation is due to start gradually from the second half of 2024.

In April, Vestas reached a deal with GE-owned LM Wind Power to source blades for its V150-4.2MW turbines in Brazil

And in May, Engie agreed to buy the wind farm from PEC Energia SA for BRL 265 million ($50 million). The project is one of the largest wind farms in Latin America, according to WIndpower Intelligence, the research and data division of Windpower Monthly.

Vestas has now received more than 8GW of orders in Brazil for its 4MW platform since 2018.

Earlier this year, Vestas reached a deal with GE-owned LM Wind Power to source blades for its V150-4.2MW turbines in Brazil. It has not confirmed whether this deal will also cover blades for turbiness at Serra de Assuruá.
