PT PLN will launch tenders on 21 renewable energy projects in 2022, among them are drilling contract tenders as well as supply contracts for seven geothermal projects.

The Indonesian state-owned electricity company PT PLN will start offering 21 New and Renewable Energy (EBT) projects in 2022, as reported by various news outlets in Indonesia, including Kontan

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif revealed that the EBT project offer was an implementation of the 2021-2030 General Plan for the Provision of Electricity (RUPTL) which had been issued previously. This was revealed by Arifin at The 10th Indonesia EBTKE ConEx 2021, earlier this week which was also attended by President Joko Widodo. In addition to these EBT projects, 21 hydro, solar and biogas-based EBT projects have also been inaugurated with a total capacity of around 312 MW and one biodiesel plant with a capacity of 580 thousand kiloliters (kl) per year.

“The announcement of renewable energy projects (EBT) offered by PLN to investors as the implementation of the 2021-2030 RUPTL with a total capacity of nearly 1.2 GW for the 2021/2022 procurement period,” said Arifin.

Arifin continued, the total investment from the series of activities reached US$ 3.9 billion. “This shows that the opportunity for investment in the EBT sub-sector is very open,” Arifin continued.

Meanwhile, Director of Various New Energy and Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Chrisnawan Anditya ensured that the procurement for a number of EBT projects by PLN will be carried out next year. “This is also what we will continue to monitor, monitor related to the procurement and bidding process,” said Chrisnawan in a Virtual Press Conference session, on Tuesday, November 22, 2021.

Chrisnawan continued, monitoring needs to be carried out so that the procurement process can run according to plan, moreover the total capacity of 1.2 GW from this program is recognized as insufficient to meet the 23% mix target in 2025.

Meanwhile, Director of Mega Projects and New Renewable Energy at PLN, Wiluyo Kusdwiharto, revealed that the implementation of NRE could only be carried out in 2022 considering the need for time to study and explore the RUPTL 2021-2030 which was only published last October.

“We need about 3 months to deploy the RUPTL into EBT activities based on the RUPTL, so that starting in the first semester of 2022, the implementation of the EBT projects will begin,” said Wiluyo.

The number of projects offered consist of several hydropower projects and others, including 7 geothermal projects.

These geothermal projects include PLTP Ulumbu 5 and Mataloko 2 & 3 in the form of drilling contractors with a capacity of 40 MW, as well as PLTP Ulumbu 5 and Mataloko 2 & 3 in the form of material suppliers and contractors (40 MW), PLTP Hululais 1 & 2 with a capacity of 110 MW, PLTP Tulehu 1 & 2 (20 MW), PLTP Sulbagut with spread quota (5 MW), PLTP Songa Wayua (2X5 MW), PLTP Atadei (2X5 MW).
