World Geothermal Congress 2023 to be a carbon-neutral event Clean Geothermal, Green Earth: Sinopec to Host World Geothermal Congress 2023 by Sept 15th to 17th in Beijing.

The World Geothermal Congress 2023 in Beijing, China will be designed as a carbon-neutral event with environment-friendly measures and carbon credit purchase.

Adhering to the theme of “Green Geothermal, Clean Earth,” the World Geothermal Congress 2023 (WGC 2023) will be held as a “zero-carbon” event. This will be done through environment-friendly measures and innovative solutions such as carbon asset purchases to neutralize greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the event.

The World Geothermal Congress 2023 will be taking place on September 14 to 23, 2023 in Beijing, China. The event is being organized by the International Geothermal Association (IGA) and hosted by Sinopec Group. ThinkGeoEnergy has signed a media partnership with the International Geothermal Association for the event.

Adhering to low-carbon practices, the following measures will be observed during the event:

  • Hydrogen-powered vehicles as shuttle service;
  • Degradable plastic bags and lunch boxes for the catering service;
  • Accurate counting of guests to avoid food waste;
  • Environment-friendly paper for supplies;
  • Reduction of paper use through a paperless office system and small-program registration and check-in;
  • Public transportation to be encouraged for participants;
  • Participants to be encourage to participate in “Clear Your Plate” campaign.

Sinopec Carbon Industry Technology Co. Ltd. has been tasked to design emission reduction measures in the preparatory, holding, and closing stages of WGC 2023 in accordance with the requirements of PAS 2060-2014 carbon neutral demonstration specification. This will involve the calculation of greenhouse gas emissions generated by WGC 2023 according to certain emission factors and accounting standards.

The actual greenhouse gas emissions produced by WGC 2023 will then be offset with a carbon credit purchase.

WGC2023 will be  focusing on the trend of global geothermal industry development, with a number of technical events themed on geothermal country reports, market development, cutting-edge technologies, green finance, policies and regulations, and sustainable development.

During this congress, WGC2023 and Geothermal Energy Development Technology and Equipment Exhibition, as well as a number of signing and brand release activities will be held at the same time, to promote the high-quality development of geothermal industry, assisting global energy transformation and jointly safeguarding the “Green Earth”.
