More than 1.7 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in August, up from 1.6 billion generated during the same period of last year, according to data released by the U.S. EPA on Sept. 16

Nearly 46.79 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in August, including 37.04 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 6.69 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 2.86 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, and 195,705 generated for liquefied RNG by importers.

Total D3 RIN generation for the first eight months of the year reached 314.71 million. That volume includes 247.79 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 45.52 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 20.23 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 919,900 generated for liquefied RNG by importers, and 244,278 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.
