MingYang secures 300MW order for onshore wind farms in Philippines

In a statement, the Chinese OEM said it received the order to supply 306MW of turbines for two wind farms Vena Energy is currently developing in the Philippines — the 212.5MW Talim Talim (212.5MW) OnshoreCalabarzon, Philippines, Asia-Pacific Click to see full details and 93.75MW Sembrano Sembrano (93.75MW) OnshoreCalabarzon, Philippines, Asia-Pacific Click to see full details projects in Rizal province east of the capital, Manila. 

MingYang said Vena Energy had ordered 49 of its MySE 6.25-172 turbines across both wind farms. Installation is expected at both Talim and Sembrano in 2024. 

The Philippines currently has an installed capacity of 443MW, according to Windpower Intelligence, the data and research divison of Windpower Monthly. The government aims to greatly expand the country’s wind capacity in the coming years, and is targeting 35% of energy generation from renewables by 2035 and 40% by 2040. 

While most of the country’s existing wind farms are onshore, the government also hopes to greatly increase its offshore wind capacity in the coming years to help meet those goals. 

A joint 2022 study by the World Bank and the country’s Department of Energy found that the Philippines has an offshore wind capacity of up to 21GW.
