Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Eni add 2GW to Italian offshore wind pipeline

CIP and GreenIT – a joint venture between utility Eni’s renewables arm Plenitude (51%) and state-owned investor CDP Equity (49%) – plan to develop three more floating wind projects off the coasts of Latium on the mainland’s west coast and the island of Sardinia.

The projects in the Tyrrhenian Sea could begin commercial operations between 2028 and 2031m the companies stated.

CIP and GreenIT plan to build:

  • An up to 540MW project off the coast of Civitavecchia, north of Rome;
  • A roughly 500MW project off Olbia in Sardinia;
  • And a roughly 1GW project off Olbia in Sardinia.

The companies had previously announced plans for 750MW of offshore wind capacity across two projects, and have already partnered to develop offshore wind in France and Poland.

Other developers, including Renexia, Hexicon, and Falck Renewables and Bluefloat Energy, are also targeting large-scale offshore wind projects in Italian waters.
