COP 27 – Side Event: Boosting floating offshore wind: an opportunity for energy cooperation in the Mediterranean Sea

Energy Disrupter

Floating offshore wind offers unique potential in the Mediterranean Sea countries. Following the large expansion and increased targets of offshore mature markets, such as Denmark, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands -among others-, with this emerging technology that is developing very rapidly, Southern Europe, North Africa and Middle East countries can produce further green electricity in deeper waters than the ones in which the bottom-fixed turbines are located. There are many challenges, but also great opportunities for developing a complete value chain to fulfil the country’s targets by 2030.
