Vestas sells Mississippi’s first wind farm to AES

Energy Disrupter

Vestas has sold the 183MW Delta wind farm it is developing in Mississippi to renewables developer AES Corporation.

The project developed by Vestas’ North American development arm Steelhead Americas is due to be the first wind farm in the south-eastern state.

The Danish firm has not confirmed what turbines are due to be used or when the project is due to be commissioned.

However, it stated that it expects Delta’s turbines to have one of the highest tip heights in North America – metres – accessing stronger wind speeds at higher altitudes.

Vestas – which recently promoted the head of its development arm to executive management – has more than 3GW of renewable energy capacity in North America in the pipeline.

Previously, Steelhead Americas has supported Vestas in securing over 3,350MW of North American turbine orders since its formation in 2016.

Chris Rogers, vice president of development for Vestas North America, said: “By adding development to our industry-leading technology and operations portfolio, we’ve deployed our industry expertise across a wider range of the renewable value chain.”
