TotalEnergies to team up with Polish mining group for Baltic Sea offshore wind bid

TotalEnergies has agreed to form a 50:50 partnership with state-owned mining firm KGHM to develop Polish offshore wind.

The partners plan to secure seabed leases for their projects ahead of upcoming government contract for difference (CfD) tenders in 2025 and 2027.

They have not confirmed how much capacity they hope to build off Poland, but plan to include a high level of local content in their bids.

Poland currently lacks offshore wind capacity, but its Energy Regulatory Office contracted just over 5.9GW of offshore wind in the Baltic through CfDs last year.

TotalEnergies and KGHM are not the only companies looking to develop Polish offshore wind farms. Ørsted is teaming up with Ze Pak and Eni and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners are working together, as are SSE and Acciona.

TotalEnergies is working to develop a 10GW-plus offshore wind pipeline in the UK, South Korea, Taiwan and the US. It has also been pre-qualified to take part in upcoming tenders in the US, the UK and France and plans to enter auctions in Norway.
