EPA: November RIN generation reaches 1.78 billion

The U.S. EPA has released renewable identification number (RIN) data for November, reporting that more than 1.78 billion RINs were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard during the month, up from 1.62 billion generated during the same period of last year.

More than 52.25 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in November, including 41.93 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 7.15 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 2.37 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 667,669 generated for liquefied RNG by importers, and 125,000 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

Total D3 RIN generation for the first 11 months of 2021 reached 466.9 million. That volume includes 369.35 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 67.02 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 28.2 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 1.96 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, and 369,278 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

More than 464.19 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in November, including 210.75 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 171.88 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 48.69 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 32.22 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 645,571 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.

Total D4 RIN generation for the first 11 months of the year reached 4.29 billion. That volume includes 2.31 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 1.15 billion generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 583.18 million generated for renewable diesel by foreign entities, 235.79 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 7.54 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers, and 4.86 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by importers.

Approximately 7.97 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in November, including 4.7 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 2.22 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 485,575 generated for LPG by domestic producers, 206,781 generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 197,167 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 163,969 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

Total D5 RIN generation for the first 11 months of 2021 reached 201.74 million. That volume includes 86.07 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 59.51 million generated for ethanol by importers, 25.41 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 23.45 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 4.05 million generated for LPG by domestic producers, 1.88 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 1.32 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.

Nearly 1.26 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in November, including 1.24 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 16.18 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 1.18 million generated for ethanol by importers.

Total D6 RIN generation for the first 11 months of year reached 12.95 billion. That volume includes 12.82 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 126.95 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 11.22 million generated for ethanol by importers.

The EPA also reported that 6,435 D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in November, all for cellulosic heating oil by importers. Total D7 RIN generation for the first 11 months of 2021 reached 66,773, all of which were generated for cellulosic heating oil by importers.

According to the EPA, nearly 17.91 billion RINs were generated under the RFS during the first 11 months of 2021, up from nearly 16.58 billion generated during the same period of last year.
