The U.S. EPA has released updated renewable identification number (RIN) data, reporting that nearly 1.62 billion RIN were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in September, down from 1.65 billion generated during the same period of last year.

Nearly 49.25 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in September, including 38.85 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 7.4 million generated for liquified RNG by domestic producers, 2.97 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, and 25,800 generated for liquefied RNG by importers.

Total D3 RIN generation for the first nine months of 2021 reached more than 364.66 million. That volume includes 287.35 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 52.92 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 23.2 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 945,700 generated for liquefied RNG by importers, and 81,426 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.

Nearly 384.81 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in September, including 209.31 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 84.87 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 72.45 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 17.69 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 480,195 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.
