North Star opts for ‘digital twin’ for Dogger Bank contract (VIDEO)

Mid-March Aberdeen’s North Star Renewables secures a contract for three state-of-the-art service vessels from world’s largest offshore wind farm.

North Star’s contract award followed a highly-competitive tender process. The Scottish firm beat off strong international competition to secure the deal to design and deliver the three-vessel service operation fleet for Dogger Bank Wind Farm, which is currently being built in the North Sea by joint venture partners SSE Renewables, Equinor and Eni.

One of the subcontractors involved in winning the contract was Amsterdam-based MO4, specialist in forecasting the workability of vessels in offshore operations with much more accuracy than is currently possible, by computing the influence of waves, wind, and current on vessels.

MO4 provided cutting-edge workability and comfort studies for various designs, to quickly iterate to an optimal SOV design for this specific wind farm. Including the unrivalled efficiency and accuracy of the Voith Schneider propulsion system has proven to be of great value for the tender. While the inclusion of MO4s ‘digital twin’, which allows for the forecasting of vessel motions, workability and comfort levels hit the nail right on the head.
