EPA: 1.58 billion RINs generated in August

The U.S. EPA has released data showing 1.58 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in August, down from 1.65 billion during the same period of 2019.
Nearly 42.6 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in August, including 32.18 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 7.17 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 2.54 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 470,463 generated for liquefied RNG by importers, and 229,403 generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.
Total D3 RIN generation for the first eight months of 2020 reached 276.76 million. That volume includes 189.45 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 44.9 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 10.32 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, 9.57 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, and 1.53 million generated for cellulosic ethanol by domestic producers.
More than 386.85 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in August, including 256.94 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 68.47 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 40 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 21.34 million generated for biodiesel by importers, and 102,168 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.
Total D4 RIN generation for the first eight months of the year was at 2.87 billion. That volume includes 1.78 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 551.29 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 339.46 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 194.79 generated for biodiesel by importers, and 5.87 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers.
Nearly 28.09 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in August, including 19.43 million generated for ethanol by importers, 3.28 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 2.94 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 1.95 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 435,284 generated for LPG by domestic producers, 52,128 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 9,452 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.
Total D5 RIN generation for the first eight months of 2020 reached 170.85 million. That volume includes 85.78 million generated for ethanol by importers, 42.33 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 22.89 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 15.39 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 2.48 million generated for LPG by domestic producers, 1.93 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 44,128 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.
More than 1.12 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in August, including 1.12 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers and 1.14 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers.
Total D6 RIN generation for the first eight months of the year reached 8.41 billion. That volume includes 8.31 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 92.51 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 6.57 million generated for ethanol by importers, and 572 generated for butanol by domestic producers.
No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs have been generated so far this year.
Total RIN generation for the first eight months of the year was at 11.73 billion, down from 13.1 billion reported for the same period of 2019.
