Enel Green Power has begun construction of the 300MW Seven Cowboy Seven Cowboy (300MW) OnshoreKiowa and Washita Counties, Oklahoma, USA, North America Click to see full details wind farm in Oklahoma. Consisting of 107 of GE Renewable Energy’s 2.82MW turbines, the project is due to begin operating by the end of 2022.

Enel said that the wind farm would generate 1.3TWh of energy annually, enough to supply 120,000 households and avoid the emission of 758,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year.

The project will be the Italian group’s 13th wind farm in Oklahoma where the company’s investment portfolio has now reached $3 billion. With 2GW of wind capacity, Enel is now the second largest wind operator in the midwestern state.

To support construction, the company also announced the development of a training space for wind turbine technicians to meet the needs of its growing workforce across the US.

“With another Oklahoma wind farm on the way, we’re increasing our focus on developing a strong clean-energy workforce,” said Paolo Romanacci, Head of Enel Green Power in the US and Canada. “Our process is straightforward: invest in Stem (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education to inspire students to join our industry, execute on our ambitious growth strategy to create new skilled jobs, and train new hires in-house to equip them for our open positions in Oklahoma and beyond.”

The space will include classrooms and state-of-the art simulation facilities for working inside wind turbines and provide classes on safety, professional development, working at height, ladder rescues and turbine repairs.

Using virtual and hands-on simulation, workers from across the company’s US wind fleet will be able to simulate the experience of climbing and maintaining a wind turbine with training held year-round.
