Vestas to boost V155 onshore wind turbine to 3.6MW
Vestas has installed a prototype of its V155-3.3MW turbine at the Østerild National Test Centre for Large Wind Turbines in Western Jutland, Denmark.
It has also announced plans to upgrade the V155 model to a 3.6MW standard power rating to boost energy production by more than 4% from the 3.3MW variant.
The turbine manufacturer expects to produce the first kilowatt hour of power from its V155-3.3MW turbine at Østerild in early September.
After that, the turbine will undergo an extensive test and verification programme to ensure reliability before serial production begins in the first quarter of 2022.
Meanwhile, Vestas will upgrade the V155-3.3MW prototype at Østerild to 3.6MW in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The upgraded turbine also improved reactive power during instances of dynamic frequency and voltage.
It is targeted at low and ultra-low wind regimes in India and the US, as well as a number of European and Latin American markets.
Vestas first introduced the V155-3.3MW turbine in late 2020 as a 4MW platform variant optimised for the low and ultra-low wind segments.
