For its pioneering use of geothermal energy, pot plant nursery Ammerlaan TGI is nominated for a prestigious event in the Netherlands, honouring companies on the forefront on deploying sustainable energy.
Pot plant nursery Ammerlaan The Green Innovator (TGI) has been nominated for the EZK Energy Award, as reported by horti point in the Netherlands. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate has awarded this prize to companies that are at the forefront of sustainable energy. According to the jury, geothermal pioneer Ammerlaan stands out because of its integration in and the connection with the environment. The two other nominees are dairy farm Stokman Koudum, which produces green gas from manure, and PolyStyreneLoop, which recycles insulating foam.
The jury: “Ammerlaan supplies heat to fellow growers, apartments in Pijnacker-Noord, Stanislas College, a sports center and a swimming pool. In addition, geothermal energy places considerably less stress on the spatial environment than, for example, energy from sun or wind. Geothermal energy as a technical solution is not so much innovative, but the relationship between technology and public support and cooperation is innovative and unique here. ”
Ammerlaan grows more than 1 million green plants per year using CO2-neutral energy. “The heat is not only for our family business, but also for 24 other growers and other buildings in the area,” says Kayleigh Ammerlaan. By using geothermal energy, the company saves more than 25,000 tons of CO2 per year. An investment in 1,750 solar panels is also planned for next year.
The prize includes an amount of EUR 25,000. The winner will be announced on January 28 during the EZK event ‘Partners in energy challenges’.
