Dutch geothermal heating developer Aardwarmte Vogelaer is set to start work on a second installation that will supply heat to horticultural companies.

Dutch geothermal developer Aardwarmte Vogelaer has announced plans to expand their geothermal heating capacity with a second installation in Arckelweg in Poeldijk, Netherlands. The environmental permit for the expansion had already been submitted to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy. Preparatory work for the project is expected to start by March 2023.

The second installation will be placed next the company’s first geothermal facility which is already supplying renewable heat to 19 companies. The expansion will allow Aardwarmte Vogelaer to supply another 16 horticultural companies with geothermal energy. There are also plans to supply heat to more than 400 homes in the residential area planned to be built in Westmade-Noord.

The Ministry had already published the draft decision on the environmental permit application on December 2022. This gives interested parties six weeks to submit comments on the draft decision.

We had previously reported on the operations of Aardwarmte Vogelaer in Poeldijk, where the company is cogenerating gas with an associated combined heat and power (CHP) facility.  With a relatively small capacity back then, the company had already announced expansion plans for 2022.
