GDC has published a tender for the design, supply, and installation of a 5-10 MW geothermal wellhead power plant at the Menengai field in Kenya.

The Geothermal Development Company (GDC) has published an open tender for the supply and installation of a 5 to 10 MW wellhead geothermal power plant at the Menengai Field in Kenya. The tender will close on the 15th of August 2024.

For clarity, the full title of the contract is “Design, Financing, Procurement/Manufacturing, Supply, Installation/Construction, Testing, and Commissioning of a 5 to 10 MW geothermal wellhead power plant at Menengai geothermal field on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis.”

A site visit conducted by the GDC will be held on the 31st July 2024 at the Menengai geothermal project.

The Menengai geothermal steam field, managed by GDC, has a potential of 169 MW based on the 53 wells that have been drilled as of 2023. The ongoing Phase 1 of the development targets a capacity of 105 MW via three power plants of 35 MW each to be constructed and operated by a different IPP. GDC is also working on direct use applications such as greenhouses, milk pasteurization, and a spa complex.
