Geokeri to complete geothermal feasibility study in Choluteca, Honduras

The state-owned power company of Honduras, ENEE, has signed a contract with Mexican consulting firm Geokeri to conclude the third and final stage of a feasibility study for the production of geothermal energy in the municipalities of Namasigue and El triunfo in Choluteca, south Honduras. The work is expected to take seven months and will start in February 2024.

Financial support for the project will come from the EUR 460,000 of non-refundable funds from the KfW Development Bank of Frankfurt, Germany. The Small Power Plants Unit (UPC) of the ENEE will then provide technical and logistical support.

Honduras currently has a single geothermal power plant – the 35-MW Geotermica Platanares, which has been operating since 2017.
