Vattenfall buys two ‘open door’ offshore wind farms in Denmark

It bought 100% of the two early-stage projects from renewables developer Green Nest Partner and management firm Peak Wind, which were working on the wind farms through their Anker Development joint venture.

The two projects are planned for sites off the coast of Jutland in Denmark and are planned with a combined capacity of 765MW.

The larger of the two developments would be a 450MW wind farm, 5km from the coast of Hanstholm in the Danish North Sea.

The second project would have a capacity of 315MW and would be located around 8km off the coast of Djursland in the Baltic Sea.

Anker Development proposed to build both projects under the Danish ‘open door’ scheme which allows companies to make direct proposals for new wind farms in locations of their choosing to the Danish authorities without having to bid in a government tender.

The scheme was previously paused due to doubts about its compatibility with EU state aid rules.

However, Denmark resumed permitting for four projects with a combined capacity of about 900MW under the scheme last month.

Vattenfall concluded the deal to acquire 100% of the two Anker Development wind farms on March 31.

Green Nest Partner and Peak Wind will continue to develop the projects in collaboration with Vattenfall.

Vattenfall believes both projects could be completed “well before” 2030 depending on the Danish authorities granting them permits to move forward.
