Chinese and Indian turbine makers could fill Russian wind void – industry body

Energy Disrupter

Director of the Russian Association of the Wind Industry (RAWI) Igor Bryzgunov argued Russia should import technology and components from “friendly countries” – namely China and India – to produce turbines on Russian soil from 2025.

This would help fill the void left by foreign manufacturers, such as Vestas and Siemens Gamesa, which left the country after Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, he suggested at a press conference in Moscow.

EU sanctions have also ended the possibility of European manufacturers supplying turbines to Russia, Bryzgunov noted.

RAWI believes there are about 40 companies in Russia that can produce components for wind turbines, including blades.

However, Russia currently has no turbine makers active in the country, RAWI noted. It expects “second- and third-tier” Chinese and Indian turbine makers to fill the void, as top manufacturers, such as Goldwind, have also pulled out of Russia, Bryzgunov said.
