Nordex kicks off serial production of 6MW-class onshore wind turbines
Nordex spent around €2 million converting the Rostock plant — which produces more than 50% of the company’s nacelles — to adapt it for production of the N163/6.Xand similar turbines.
The N163/6.X is the company’s largest and most powerful model in serial production. Because the nacelles are heavier than for other models, the company invested in driverless transport vehicles at the plant to move the N163 nacelles from workplace to workplace, a company spokesperson told Windpower Monthly.
Launched last year, the N163/6.X platform is an uprate of the company’s N163/5.X model and is initially aimed at Scandinavian and other northern European markets, Max Jungk, director of global product strategy and management at Nordex, said when it was unveiled.
The first two of 15 N163/6.X turbines to repower the 47.6MW Zeebiestocht and 54.4MW Olsterwind wind farms in the province of Flevoland, the Netherlands, was installed in May last year as part of the first phase of the 500MW Windplan Groen Windplan Groen (500MW) OnshoreFlevoland, Netherlands, Europe Click to see full details repowering project.
Nordex has received more than 1.1GW of orders for the N163/6.X platform.
