Northern Ireland report reviews existing geothermal technologies and policies
Northern Ireland’s Department for the Economy has published a new report providing a review of existing geothermal technologies and policies in the context of Northern Ireland.
The Department for the Economy (DfE) of Northern Ireland has commissioned Arup and the British Geological Survey (BGS) to create the “Research into the geothermal energy sector in Northern Ireland” report (download here).
This report provides a comprehensive review of existing geothermal technologies and makes some recommendations on how to help identify and assess the feasibility of geothermal projects in Northern Ireland. It also has a section that geothermal energy regulations from six European countries (Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland).
This report builds upon the “Net zero pathways” report that had been written by researchers from the Queen’s University in Belfast. This previous report looks at the confidence-building actions that can contribute to building a geothermal energy sector in Northern Ireland.
