EPA: 1.94 billion RINs generated in November

The U.S. EPA on Dec. 15 released data showing more than 1.94 billion renewable identification numbers (RINs) were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in November, up from 1.78 billion generated during the same month of last year. Total RIN generation for the first 11 months of 2022 reached more than 19.37 billion, up from 17.92 billion generated during the same period of 2021.
Nearly 59.12 million D3 cellulosic biofuel RINs were generated in November, including 48.84 million generated for compressed renewable natural gas (RNG) by domestic producers, 6.86 million generated for liquified RNG by domestic producers, 3.29 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, and 125,974 generated for liquefied RNG generated by importers.
Total D3 RIN generation for the first 11 months of 2022 reached 551.47 million. That volume includes 449.16 million generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers, 70.53 million generated for liquefied RNG by domestic producers, 26.15 million generated for compressed RNG by importers, 4.52 million generated for liquefied RNG by importers, and 1.12 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers.
More than 581.59 million D4 biomass-based diesel RINs were generated in November, including 276.81 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 211.4 million generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 50.73 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 42.38 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 243,562 generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers, and 41,398 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers.
Total D4 RIN generation for the first 11 months of the year reached 5.2 billion. That volume includes 2.21 billion generated for biodiesel by domestic producers, 2.1 billion generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 573.93 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, 295.94 million generated for biodiesel by importers, 12.47 million generated for renewable jet fuel by domestic producers, 10.37 million generated for renewable jet fuel by foreign entities, and 79,337 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers.
More than 36.57 million D5 advanced biofuel RINs were generated in November, including 13.22 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 10.87 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 9.71 million generated for ethanol by importers, 2.17 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 355,058 generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, 185,067 generated for LPG by domestic producers, and 60,136 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.
Total D5 RIN generation for the first 11 months of 2022 reached 298.88 million. That volume includes 111.93 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by domestic producers, 83.9 million generated for naphtha by domestic producers, 69.8 million generated for ethanol by importers, 26.57 million generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 3.09 million generated for LPG by domestic producers, 2.86 million generated for renewable heating oil by domestic producers, and 917,789 generated for compressed RNG by domestic producers.
Nearly 1.27 billion D6 renewable fuel RINs were generated in November, including 1.25 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 16.74 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 1.19 million generated for ethanol by importers.
Total D6 RIN generation for the first 11 months of the year reached 13.32 billion. That volume includes 13.2 billion generated for ethanol by domestic producers, 108.87 million generated for nonester renewable diesel by foreign entities, and 12.82 million generated for ethanol by importers.
No D7 cellulosic diesel RINs were generated in November. A total of 202,455 D7 RINs were generated during the first 11 months of 2022, all for cellulosic heating oil by importers.
