Not a normal rotor blade; it’s a global first!

Wind Energy – RecyclableBlade

This summer, Siemens Gamesa is installing the world’s first RecyclableBlade jointly with customer RWE!

The blades that will be installed at RWE’s Kaskasi offshore wind plant are currently being produced at our production facility in Hull, UK.

“We can’t wait to see the first RecyclableBlades spinning on the SG 8.0-167 DD turbines in the German North Sea,” says Markus Webber CEO of RWE.

Siemens Gamesa says that 85 to 90% of each wind turbine is already recyclable. However, rotor blades still present a challenge, as the adhesive resin used can’t be separated off later.

A new kind of resin now enables the fibres to be separated and reused after the 25-year lifetime of the rotor blade comes to an end. They can be utilised in the automotive or consumer goods industry, for example.
