Turbine maker Vestas to source blades from GE’s LM Wind Power in Brazil

Vestas will source blades for its V150-4.2MW turbines in Brazil from General Electric subsidiary LM Wind Power.

The Danish companies have signed a multi-year agreement for blade manufacturer LM Wind Power to supply Vestas with blades from its factory in Ipojuca, Pernambuco, Brazil.

The deal is primarily for the Brazilian market, but offers Vestas the flexibility to export if needed, the companies said. Production is scheduled to begin later this year.

The deal will create local jobs, spur direct and indirect investments in the Brazilian supply chain and expand Vestas’ global manufacturing setup, the company said.

The Danish turbine manufacturer added that sharing manufacturing operations across the renewables industry ensures sites do not sit idle. 

Dorte Kamper, vice president of sales and marketing, LM Wind Power, added: “Now more than ever, collaboration throughout the value chain is crucial for the wind industry to sustain a healthy growth and deliver on what an electrified and net-zero world needs from us.”

Vestas has secured more than 6.5GW of turbine orders for its V150-4.2MW and V150-4.5MW turbine variants in Brazil and 700MW in other Latin American markets.
