Aker Solutions, DeepOcean and Solstad form offshore wind services alliance
Three Nordic offshore wind contractors have agreed to work together to form a “one-stop shop” for offshore renewable energy services.
Aker Solutions, DeepOcean and Solstad Offshore plan to jointly offer product supply, fabrication, marine and subsea operations and associated engineering services for offshore wind and other offshore renewable segments.
As part of Windstaller Alliance they intend to combine their technologies, capabilities, experience and resources.
By doing this, they aim to reduce the number of suppliers a customer has to deal with and therefore reduce technical and commercial project risk. Having a “one-stop shop” for services should also cut project execution time, the companies explained.
The companies will cooperate where it makes sense to the alliance partners and clients, and operate independently if a specific project is not a good fit for the alliance, a spokesman advised.
“Today’s supply chain for the offshore renewables market is highly fragmented and, in our view, sub-optimal in terms of efficiency, cost, risk and environmental footprint,” said Guro Høyaas Løken, newly appointed head of the Windstaller Alliance.
“Windstaller Alliance is able to take an integrated approach where appropriate, while unlocking value for both operators and suppliers, at the same time reducing the total carbon footprint of offshore renewable projects.”
The three companies aim to reduce the amount of supplier interfaces and therefore reduce technical and commercial project risk.
Aker Solutions is experienced in complex fabrication of substructures for wind turbines and also offers subsea and topside equipment. DeepOcean has trenchers, remotely operated vehicles and cable repair spreads that can be used in the offshore renewables sector. And Solstad Offshore has supported offshore wind installations, operations and maintenance since 2009.
They will jointly identify market opportunities and agree which prospects and solutions to pursue together on a case-by-case basis.
