GE Renewable Energy confirms Haliade-X order for Vineyard Wind 1

GE Renewable Energy has today (11 October) confirmed that it received a firm order in September, to supply its Haliade-X offshore wind turbines to the 800MW Vineyard Wind 1 Vineyard Wind 1 (800MW) Offshoreoff Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, USA, North America Click to see full details project. It had been named preferred supplier in December 2020.

It will supply 62 of the turbines with a power rating of 13MW. They will be installed at the Atlantic Ocean project site, 24km off Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Project developers Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) recently reached financial close on the project. It will become the US’ first large-scale offshore wind farm, with first power expected in 2023.

GE’s Haliade-X prototype in the Netherlands is the world’s most powerful operational offshore wind turbine. It received its official type certification from DNV GL in early 2021.

Last month, Avangrid Renewables and CIP agreed to divide their offshore wind assets to focus on their own expansion plans, but they will continue to work together on the construction and operational phases of Vineyard Wind 1.
