Eden geothermal project to kick off drilling May 2021
The Eden project in Cornwall, UK is now planning to start drilling in mid-May 2021, following a ten-month delay due to the pandemic.
Following a delay in work on the project, the Eden project in Cornwall, UK has now scheduled drilling to kick-off in mid-May 2021. This is a 10 months delay from the initially planned start of drilling in the summer of 2020, so iNews.
During the pandemic-related lockdown, the project had challenges to find a building contractor. Yet while this created additional costs, there are also cost savings due to more competition for the companies bidding for the drilling contracts.
The project now plans to finish the first phase of development by the end of 2021. It then will have to raise additional funding of GBP 25 million for the second phase, which will see drilling of a second well and a plant to provide power and heat to the local area.
