Vestas enters Colombia with 20MW order

Energy Disrupter

Vestas will supply ten V100-2.0MW turbines for a 20MW wind farm being developed by infrastructure firm Elecnor and energy company Isagen – its first turbine order in Colombia.

It will also provide operation and maintenance services at the 20MW Guajira I Guajira I (20MW) OnshoreUribia, La Guajira, Colombia, Central & South America Click to see full details wind farm for 12 years.

The Danish manufacturer is due to deliver the turbines to the site in the northern department of La Guajira before Q2 2021 and then commission the project by Q4.

Vestas claims it has around 11GW of wind installed or under construction in Latin America, but the Guajira order is its first in Colombia.

Nordex supplied turbines for the country’s first and only wind farm.

However, Colombia has since awarded contracts to 1.3GW of wind and solar PV projects through a clean energy tender in 2019.

The five successful wind farms are all due to be built in La Guajira – the location of Elecnor and Isagen’s project.

Elecnor has previously developed wind farms in Chile and Brazil, while development partner Isagen has a 3GW-plus portfolio of hydroelectric and thermal energy projects.
