Government officials held an introduction meeting on the Geothermal Source Specialized Greenhouse Organized Industrial Zone based on Agriculture (TDIOSB) project in the City of Kayseri in Central Anatolia, Türkiye. In attendance were Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkiliç and Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change Mehmet Özhasek, who provided details about the project and its goals.

Minister Özhaseki emphasized that they are opening the door to a new technology and approach with soilless agriculture on an area of approximately 1.25 million square meters in Kayseri.

The Geothermal TDIOSB in Kayseri was established in early 2023, aided with a grant of 185 million TL from the Ministry for infrastructure works.

It was also mentioned that the works of the Geothermal TDIOSB project, with Kayseri Governorship Investment Monitoring and Coordination Presidency, Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, Kocasinan Municipality, Kayseri Chamber of Industry, Kayseri Chamber of Commerce, and Kayseri Commodity Exchange as founding members, is continuing at full speed.

“We Are Bringing a New Technology and Approach to Kayseri”

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Özhaseki highlighted that Kayseri is making significant strides in both industry and agriculture. He pointed out that the new organized industrial zone to be established is different from traditional industrial zones, being smokeless and environmentally friendly.

Özhaseki stated, “Kayseri will produce both the fruits and vegetables it needs and be able to sell food to neighboring provinces and abroad.” He noted that thanks to this industrial zone, vegetable and fruit production in Kayseri will increase to 35,000 tons annually.

Employment and Economic Contribution

Minister Özhaseki stated that the Geothermal TDIOSB will contribute approximately 1 billion TL annually to Kayseri’s economy and that 1,500 people, 75% of whom will be women, will be employed in the region. Özhaseki said, “Previously, fruit and vegetable supply was done from nearby places like Adana and Antalya, which increased transportation costs. With this new zone, fruit and vegetable prices in Kayseri will decrease.”

Other attendees at the meeting included Kayseri Governor Gökmen Çiçek, AK Party Kayseri Deputies Saban Çopuroglu, Murat Cahid Cingi, Bayar Özsoy, AK Party Provincial Chairman Fatih Üzüm, Kocasinan Mayor Ahmet Çolakbayrakdar, Kayseri Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ömer Gülsoy, Kayseri Commodity Exchange Chairman Recep Baglamis, and Kayseri Chamber of Industry Chairman Mehmet Büyüksimitci.

The newly established Geothermal TDIOSB is expected to significantly contribute to Kayseri’s economic and agricultural development. All participants wished the project well and expressed their gratitude to everyone involved.
