The sports arena of Unterhaching, Germany has now been renamed “Geothermie Arena” and will have a new focus on renewable energy events alongside sports.

The sports arena on Utzweg in Unterhaching, Germany has officially opened with a new name – “Geothermie Arena.” The arena has now been named after local utility Geothermie Unterhaching after the contract with the previous sponsor Bayernwerk AG had expired.

The opening of the rebranded sports arena was celebrated with a volleyball Bundesliga match between TSV Unterhaching and ASV Dachau.

Although the community lost income from the sponsorship, renaming it after the local utility provided an opportunity for the sports hall to also become an event location with a focus on renewable energies. From business get-togethers to community workshops, events on renewable energies can take place on the sidelines of volleyball games or other sports.

Geothermie Unterhaching paid only for the change in the name lettering of the hall and a renovated entrance area. The energy supplied had previously announced plans to hold events on 2024 in the sports arena with a focus on social issues, as well as sports programs for all generations.

The local utility had previously announced a plan to expand geothermal district heating in Unterhaching, with the aspiration to serve all Unterhaching residents by 2028 at the latest. The application had been approved by the local council in a unanimous, cross-party decision. Prior to this, Geothermie Unterhaching had announced a technical cooperation with Innovative Energie Pullach (IEP).
