Danish media site Vejle Amts Folkeblad said a 41-year-old Portuguese man had died after an explosion at Welcon’s factory in Jutland, Denmark.

Three other people, believed to be welders, were also injured in the blast and two of them remain in a critical condition, suffering from severe burns.

The cause of the explosion is believed to be a gas leak which ignited early on Wednesday morning according to local media.

Jens Risvig Pedersen, director at the Welcon plant told Vejle Amts Folkeblad that until the cause was fully determined, work at the area where the workers were caught in the explosion would stop and that psychological support had been offered to employees at the company.

Welcon makes steel turbine towers for a number of wind turbine manufacturing majors including Vestas, Siemens Gamesa and Nordex.

Danish police and Welcon were contacted by Windpower Monthly but had not responded at the time of publication.
