Vestas’ 15MW wind turbine breaks 24-hour power generation record

Vestas stated that the prototype of its V236-15.0MW offshore wind turbine — which is currently installed for testing at the onshore national test site at Østerild in Jutland, Denmark — successfully produced 363MWh of wind energy over 24 hours. 

The turbine has been undergoing a testing process since its installation at the site in December 2022. 

“The verification campaign will continue to achieve the type certification and further demonstrate what a high-quality machine can deliver over time,” Jesper Uth, senior director of test and validation at Vestas, said. 

The achievement breaks the previous 24-hour record of 359MWh produced by rival European manufacturer Siemens Gamesa’s 14MW SG 14-222 DD turbine. 

The V236-15.0MW is due to make its offshore debut next year at the planned 72MW Frederikshavn test site currently being developed in Denmark’s Kattegat Sea.
