After 72 hours of capacity testing, the 50-MW Unit 3 of the Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power Plant has now officially declared a Commercial Operations Date.

After 72 hours of Unit Capacity Rate (URC) testing, commissioning of the 50-MW Unit of the Sorik Marapi geothermal power plant in the Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia has officially been completed and a Commercial Operations Date (COD) has been declared. The URC test was conducted from October 3 – 6, 2022 under the supervision of state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero).

PT Sorik Marapi Geothermal Power (PT SMGP) is a subsidiary of KS Orka Renewables. We had previously reported on the start of the commissioning process earlier this year.

“We are very grateful to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Mandailing Natal Regency Government, and all parties who have supported and cooperated well, so that COD Unit 3 was carried out. The success of SMGP is our success together,” said PT SMGP COO and CTO Riza Pasikki in a written statement.

“The success of the URC test also proves the overall reliability of Sorik Marapi’s Power Plant system,” added Riza. “In line with efforts to maximize geothermal potential safely and sustainably, this achievement is clear evidence of KS Orka group’s commitment to supporting government programs in the energy transition to realize Net Zero Emission by 2060, or sooner,”
