Preparation steps taken on new geothermal development in Cornwall
Preparing for planning application, Geothermal Engineering Ltd. is exploring the requirement of an EIA for a planned new geothermal project in Cornwall.
Geothermal Engineering Ltd. (GEL) has submitted a request for the local Cornwall Council, UK for a so called “screening opinion” exploring if an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is required in preparation of a planning application for plans of a new geothermal project.
The planned project, located near the coastal resort of Perranporth in Cornwall, England, would be similar to the United Downs Deep Geothermal Project with two wells to be drilled on site at Penhallow. The expected depth of the wells to be drilled is 4,500 metres on the 2.1 hectare farming land site.
Last month, we reported on plans by GEL of four additional geothermal projects in Cornwall by 2026.
The company’s United Downs project produces steam at 175 degrees Celsius, recently announced a tender for a geothermal power plant and expects to deliver geothermal power to the local grid during 2022.
