Live Efficient: Demand Response Programs manage home energy – Seacoastonline.com
Eversource customers could be rewarded for helping Eversource reduce stress on the power grid and lower New England’s carbon footprint.
Eversource’s ConnectedSolutions Demand Response programs are designed to help you better manage your home’s energy, by allowing us to adjust the energy use on select devices in your home during times of peak demand.
When a customer enrolls, they will be rewarded for helping to manage strain on the electrical grid and lower our carbon footprint, without sacrificing comfort or convenience in your home.
Curious to see if your devices qualify? Pick a program below to learn more.
Smart Thermostat Program
Enroll an eligible thermostat to earn up to $45 and lower your carbon footprint, all without sacrificing comfort.
Connecting qualified thermostats to Eversource’s ConnectedSolutions program enables us to make small adjustments to your energy use during times of peak demand, while rewarding you for helping reduce demand on the electric grid.
You can earn $25 for enrolling a qualified thermostat, and an additional $20 at the end of the summer.
PROGRAM DETAILS
Times of peak demand are when everyone is using electricity the most, which often requires additional power generation with more expensive and more polluting fuels.
You maintain control of your thermostat during peak demand events and can opt-out of adjustments at any time.
All events will last for three hours and occur between 2 and 7 p.m. on non-holiday weekdays between June 1 and September 30, and notification will be sent out prior to and after all events.
HOW TO ENROLL
The program reached full enrollment in New Hampshire this past summer. Check back at eversource.com next year if you are interested in enrolling.
If you already own an eligible thermostat, you may receive a notification from your thermostat manufacturer asking you to enroll. You can also purchase an eligible thermostat and enroll yourself.
Home Battery Storage Program
Earn rewards and lower carbon emissions by enrolling your home battery storage system in Eversource’s ConnectedSolutions.
Home batteries can help you store clean energy generated by a home solar system, or simply provide backup energy in case you need it.
By enrolling in the ConnectedSolutions Demand Response program, you will be rewarded for allowing Eversource to use the energy stored in your home battery at times of high demand.
Incentives for home batteries are based on the average kilowatt (kW) used per event, averaged over the season. All events will occur between 2 and 7 pm. If there is an extreme weather event in the forecast, we will not draw energy from your battery.
Your battery installer or vendor may submit the application for you. You can also download the application at eversource.com and email it to: ConnectedSolutions@eversource.com.
At this time Sonnen, Generac, Tesla and SolarEdge are the only eligible battery manufacturers for ConnectedSolutions. Visit Eversource’s Demand Response Program FAQ page at everssource.com.
How much you earn is based on the average kilowattage your battery contributes per event. A typical home battery could contribute an average of 5 kW per event. This would earn $1,125 for the summer season and $250 for the winter season.
Different batteries can contribute different amounts during events and some manufacturers may collect a portion of the incentive payment in return for managing your participation in the program. Please contact your battery manufacturer or installer for more information about your battery’s expected contribution and what, if any, portion of the incentive they collect.
