Wind Energy – International Collaboration

According to a post of Herrenknecht, a Japanese delegation recently visited the Noirmoutier offshore wind park, where DEME Offshore is installing foundations.

The visit underscores the importance of international collaboration, the hard work, and crucial knowledge exchange required to secure a sustainable future for offshore wind energy in Japan.

In Japan the offshore wind market is rapidly gaining momentum, driven by the increasing demand for renewable energy resources. However, the complex seabed conditions often make conventional installation methods unfeasible.

The Saikai-Enoshima Offshore Wind Project, awarded to a consortium of Sumitomo Corporation and TEPCO by Japan’s government exemplifies these challenges.

The consortium is collaborating closely with main contractor Penta-Ocean Construction Company Limited and Japan Offshore Marine (JOM) to develop robust techniques for installing monopiles in challenging seabed conditions.

JOM is a joint venture between DEME Offshore and Penta-Ocean Construction, both having extensive experience in their own field, and being at the forefront of offshore wind construction in Japan since 2021.

Herrenknecht supports DEME in demonstrating at Noirmoutier on site as well at its own premises how combined expertise can lead to sustainable solutions and bring new approaches for renewable energy to life.
