Wind Energy – Thor OWF

RWE Offshore Wind announced that the first of 72 monopiles has been successfully installed at Thor Offshore Wind Farm in the Danish North Sea.

In the upcoming months, all monopiles will be shipped to the construction site from the heavy-lift terminal in Dutch Eemshaven. The installation vessel can load five of the heavy monopiles in one shipment. Each one is around 100 metres in length and weighs up to 1,500 metric tons.

Thor will also be equipped with sustainable features during construction and when in operation. After installation, the monopiles will be protected from the harsh conditions at sea by innovative reused hardcovers until the turbine towers are mounted.

Later on, 36 of the turbines will be equipped with CO2-reduced steel towers and 40 turbines will use recyclable rotor blades.

Thor will be fully operational in 2027.
