NAM director Martijn van Haaster: “With this sale, we close our 60 years of offshore activities and start a new chapter for our colleagues and NAM. Of course, this means that we also have to say goodbye to colleagues and that always hurts. But at the same time, with Tenaz Energy as the new owner and operator, a positive impulse will be given to the desired acceleration of offshore gas production. That’s good for the employees involved and that’s good for the Netherlands.”

This sale includes the offshore gas fields, platforms, and pipelines, including the gas treatment plant in Den Helder, except gas extraction near and on Ameland. In 2023, these offshore gas fields collectively produced 1.1 billion m3 of gas, enough to supply almost 1 million Dutch households with gas for a year.

Both parties are now starting a transition process that is expected to be completed within 12 months, after which the sale will be formally completed. During this transition period, NAM will remain responsible for the safe and reliable operation of these fields and installations.

After the completed sale, NAM will continue to be a relevant energy player in the Netherlands with the production from the small onshore gas fields under the Wadden Sea and Ameland. In 2023, these gas fields produced more than 2 billion m3 of gas.

In addition, the NAM is the operator of the gas storage facilities in Norg and Grijpskerk, and produces oil in Rotterdam, and hopes to start producing oil in Schoonebeek again in 2025.
