The developer, which co-owns the project with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), said that 10 turbines are now operating in the 806MW project.

The complete project will consist of 62 GE Vernova Haliade-X 13MW turbines.

Previously, the largest offshore wind project in the US was Ørsted’s South Fork, off New York. It was completed earlier this year, with 132MW capacity from 12 Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SG 11.0-200 DD turbines.

Vineyard Wind 1 has installed 47 foundations and transition pieces as well as 21 turbines, said Avangrid, and installation of the next turbine is currently under way. The project will be the largest renewable energy facility in New England once fully operational, delivering enough clean electricity to power 400,000 homes and businesses, the company added.

Vineyard Wind began offshore construction in late 2022. In February 2024, Vineyard Wind delivered around 68MW from five turbines to the New England grid.
