Wind Energy – Christening in US

Last week Oceantic Network’s Liz Burdock and Joe Tirone attended the christening of te ECO Edison, the first service vessel built in the US in Louisiana.

U.S. Congressmen Troy Carter, Steve Scalise (R-LA), and Ørsted Americas CEO David Hardy spoke at the christening ceremony .

This first U.S.-made service operation vessel for offshore wind will be utilized for Ørsted’s Northeast projects, Sunrise Wind and Revolution Wind.

The innovative new vessel brought over 600 jobs to Louisiana during its construction and, with even more vessels planned, this is only the start of shipbuilding in the Gulf of Mexico for offshore wind.

Network CEO Liz Burdock attended, noting Hardy spoke on the massive supply chain that made this new vessel possible. In total, more than 34 states contributed to its construction in some way. A point later echoed by leader Scalise. And as the broader supply chain for offshore wind continues to develop, inputs will come from across the nation as existing professionals lend their expertise to a new industry.

“We see this not as an East Coast Energy project, but as America’s energy project,” said Hardy.

Carter and Scalise then voiced Louisiana’s strong support for renewable energy and touted the impact offshore wind and other energy sources will have on U.S. energy security.

Then, Jennifer Scalise broke a bottle of champagne on the ECO Edison’s bow to mark its official christening.
