Star Energy has been assigned as partner of PT PLN for the development of the Kepahiang Geothermal Working Area in Bengkulu, Indonesia.

Star Energy Geothermal (Star Energy) has been appointed by PT PLN (Persero) as a partner to develop the Kepahiang Geothermal Working Area (WKP) in Bengkulu, Indonesia. Kepahiang was one of the geothermal sites offered for partnership by PLN back in 2023.

The announcement was made by Harris Yahya, Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR). No other details on the partnership were provided yet.

The Kepahiang WKP, established in 2012, is also sometimes referred to as the Gunung Kaba WKP. The cited geothermal potential of Kepahiang based on MEMR documents is 74 MW (speculative) and 180 MW (suspected).

Star Energy currently operates the Wayang Windu (230.5 MW), Salak (381 MW), and Darajat (274.5 MW) geothermal power plants. In 2022, Singapore-based Green Era Pte Ltd (Green Era) acquired a 33.33% stake in Star Energy.
