IGNIS Energy acquires geothermal operating license in Karliova, Türkiye
IGNIS Energy has acquired a geothermal operation license in the Kaynarpinar village of Karliova district in Bingöl, Türkiye.
IGNIS Energy has acquired a geothermal operation license in in Kaynarpinar of Karliova district in the district of Bingöl in Türkiye. The area is at the intersection of two of Türkiye’s largest fault zones and had been given an operating license for a health tourism project.
Previous studies done in the Karliova site include shallow drilling and geophysical and geochemical studies within the geothermal license. Based on the positive results of these studies, Ignis Energy is planning a more comprehensive geophysical survey, as well as the drilling of thermal gradient wells in the region in the coming months.
Bingöl is considered a very promising region for geothermal development.
Throughout the region there is a rich geothermal structure and various surface manifestations that can be seen with the naked eye. Many thermal springs such as Göynük Haciyan Thermal Spring, Kös Thermal Spring and Hasköy Thermal Spring are used by the local population for healing purposes. Very recently, we reported that Ignis Energy had been awarded three geothermal resource exploration licenses in the Bingöl Province
Determined to reveal the untouched vast geothermal potential in eastern Türkiye, Ignis Energy affirmed in its statements that it is considering expanding its portfolio in the region to support the overall goal to reach a 1 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2030.
IGNIS Energy CEO Richard Calleri also mentions the importance of making selective technological investments in parallel to support this goal, even though the portfolio in Turkey is based on traditional hydrothermal systems. One of these technology investments is in the transformative geothermal development company Sage Geosystems Inc. that provides alternative solutions to traditional development and can also be used to accelerate the development of low-cost energy storage.
IGNIS Energy continues its efforts to strengthen its place as an important developer in the geothermal market. Prof. Nathan Meehan, one of IGNIS’s board members, explains:
“Ignis is a startup company on a journey to decarbonize energy while improving people’s lives. As a professor working both in producing cleaner oil and gas and in many areas of decarbonization, I am passionate about using my experience and expertise to build a better future for all. I joined IGNIS to provide safe, affordable, and clean energy for everyone by harnessing the earth’s heat. It is exciting to be a part of this important mission.”
