Colorado utilities issue RFI on future RNG projects

A group of Colorado natural gas utilities on July 17 issued a request for information (RFI) to identify future developers of renewable natural gas (RNG), including recovered methane projects associated with the state’s Clean Heat Statute.
Colorado’s Clean Heat Statute was established in 2021. It requests that utilities within the state file clean heat plans supporting efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. One element of the effort is the expanded use of recovered methane from sources such as landfills, wastewater, dairy farms and coal mines.
As a result, Atmos Energy, Black Hills Colorado Gas, Colorado Springs Utilities, and Public Service Company of Colorado opened the RFI to identify future sellers of RNG. The RFI is open to developers, markets and others who can provide RNG to Colorado utilities. Requested information includes RNG production method, daily production volumes, gas quality, locations, start-up dates, contract terms, as well as information about the respondent.
Respondents are asked to indicate their participation by July 28. The deadline to submit questions on the RFI is July 31. The utilities plan to respond to those questions by Aug. 7, with full RFI responses due Sept. 1.
