Geothermal and mineral extraction training introduced in Imperial Valley, California
The Imperial Valley College in California has announced the LIFT program for training and skills development in the fields of geothermal energy and mineral extraction.
The Imperial Valley College (IVC) in Imperial County California has announced the introduction of the Lithium Industry Force Training (LIFT) program, which aims to provide training to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in geothermal energy and mineral extraction.
The program is being executed by the IVC in partnership with Imperial County, EnergySource Minerals, BHE Renewables, and Controlled Thermal Resources. It will offer one-year, short-term certificate programs where students will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and be given hands-on training and internship opportunities. Programs offered by LIFT will all be connected to industry certifications such as the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA) and the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3).
LIFT will be headed by experienced faculty members from IVC with extensive expertise in geothermal energy and mineral extraction. Instruction will provide both theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on training. The aim of the program is to empower the local workforce and equip them with the skills needed to secure employment opportunities within the Lithium Valley project.
“We are proud to launch this groundbreaking program, tailored to our community’s needs and developed in collaboration with the County of Imperial. It is a testament to our dedicated team, including our staff, faculty, and all those who came together to address the needs of students and industries,” said Efrain Silva, IVC Dean of Economic Workforce Development.
“This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our esteemed colleagues and community partners. We are deeply grateful for the County’s dedication and commitment to our institution, which has allowed us to pioneer innovative initiatives that will shape the future of the Lithium industry. Together, we are forging a path of excellence and driving progress in education and economic workforce development,” added Dr. Lennor Johnson, IVC Superintendent / President.
Registration for the Plant Operator Program will begin on July 5, 2023, with classes commencing on August 14, 2023. The Instrumentation and Chemical Lab Technician Programs will start in Fall 2024. More details on the program are available at the Imperial Valley College website.
